According to the advertising team behind Churreria, they are for sure the first Churro-hawking joint EVER in Indonesia. And since we don’t really know how you would go about proving that one way or the other (and they’re totally banking on that fact), we’re gonna go with it.
Food Frame Friday: Jakarta Food Ads at its best
25 FebThere’s really not much to say here….Paul sent me the following picture from his phone last week while he was in Jakarta visiting a bunch of clients. He said it was in a mall somewhere – not surprising to me, and yet, honestly, I still die of laughter. I know, I’m super mature.
Who is uncle Toby? I doubt anyone in Indonesia has an Uncle Toby, okay? Furthermore, if you look closely, you’ll see the first “ingredient” they’re listing is toasted wheat flakes, so I’m not really that hopeful that it is indeed a feast of nuts… I’m just sayin’
Truffles, Caviar and Gourmet Salts – Wholesale Food Porn
23 FebI don’t know how I didn’t know about this place before, but thanks to the ladies at Dollar Store Crafts I just found out about Marky’s. Their tagline is “Caviar, Smoked Salmon, Foie Gras, Truffles”. Yes, yes, yes and yes.
If you like salt, and by “like” I mean you (like me) have a salt lick next to your bed, and dream about your cupboard being stocked full of a rainbow presentation of worldly salts, then this place is for you.
Food Frame Friday: Video edition
18 FebI love taking food videos, and I’m glad I do, because sometimes it’s just hard to capture that same emotion or funny little moment if you don’t snap the camera at the exact right second. Videos allow me to go back, watch process, my initial reaction and make notes about what’s happening (of course this all applies to food videos).
This was by far one of the most exciting little food experiences I had on my Asia trip, enjoy the fry! (and sorry in advance, i forgot the video camera wouldn’t adjust when I changed from holding the camera horizontally to vertically. my bad!
Local Plate: Broiler Bay Burgers Shakes it Like a Salt Shaker….
14 Feb…. or at Least Like a Creamy Banana Milk Shake with Greasy Onion Rings
You know a burger joint is worth its weight in grease when it’s situated on a less traveled side street and there’s twenty people lined up, going out the door. The charbroiled smoke that fills the air at Broiler Bay Burgers in Bellevue (10636 Main St. Bellevue, WA 98004) and casts a haze over your better judgment lures you into the winding queue of high school boys, young professionals, construction workers and the occasional lady.
These seductive, homemade onion rings are edible bangles of perfection. Don't say you weren't warned. ©Siiri Sampson 2010
The organized chaos is enough to cause momentary paralysis – between the chatter of patrons squished into booths along the L-shaped perimeter, the call and response of the cashier to the kitchen, and the crackling pop of homemade onion rings being born.
Local Plate: Secrets of a Food Writer’s Fridge: What the EGG is Rotting in There?!
24 JanAll this food is for one person. What the cheese was I thinking?!
Name of food writer: Siiri Sampson
Position: Voracious Blogger for The Eatside
Shame factor: Depends on who’s around. If alone=zero, around friends=low, around parents=moderate.
Contents of note: It’s hard to transition into cooking for one, when you’re used to feeding roommates and a beefy hunk of a boyfriend twenty-four, seven. Now I live alone, and the BF lives overseas. That’s my disclaimer on the seemingly schizophrenic fridge contents you’re about to see.
Please Come In: Steelcut Oats Overnight from NudeFood
21 JanA great food friend of mine, Kate, has a fabulous food blog that is very well educated and thoughtful about food. The dishes she makes are tasty, wholesome, and not skimpy on the flavor or filling.
She recently posted on something I have almost every day: steelcut oatmeal. I learned something new, and I thought I’d share it with you today, as a nice little read that might just make you reconsider what you eat for breakfast!
New Years Food Resolution GIVEAWAY!!!!!
3 JanHAPPY NEW YEAR!
Everyone has some sort of resolution for the New Year, whether or not they admit it to themselves or others.
I always have something I vow to do or focus on, but I try not to make it so strict that I set myself up for failure. In the spirit of community, I’m going to share my 2011 Goals with you (that’s what I call them), and then, I’m giving away FREE STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Consider it a late Holiday present from me to you, okay?
Is it possible? ANOTHER Giveaway!!!!!!!!!!!!
19 OctIt’s true, friends, I’m doing TWO giveaways in ONE week this week. Why? Because we have something fun to celebrate!
Yours truly has started a fun side gig with a local newspaper, The Seattle Weekly. Starting today, and coming out every Tuesday, I am writing a blog column, The Eatside, for Seattle Weekly’s food blog, Voracious. I cover all things on the Eastside of greater Seattle (so that’s East of Lake Washington).
Today’s article is on a fun little joint called Lil’ Jon. Go check out the article when you have time:
http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/voracious/2010/10/working_title_lil_jon_review.php
Meanwhile, we’ll start a giveaway today to celebrate my new adventure! Sooooo, what’s up for grabs today?
It’s a Lasagna Lover Stoneware dish from Rachael Ray:
That’s right! It’s blue, shiny and just BEGGING you to splatter tomato sauce and noodles into it’s softly curved corners. It’s dishwasher, microwave, freezer and oven safe to 500 degrees. AND, it has a glazed interior that’s nonporous so your food won’t stick! It’s 9″ x 13″ with extra wide handle holes.
What are you making, and what time should I be there? Ha ha, just kidding. But seriously, send me your address, I’ll bring the wine.
So, if you’re interested in winning todays giveaway, here’s how**:
1. Go read my article (which will take you about 3 minutes), and share it with a friend (you’ll see at the bottom there’s a button to email it to a friend, or you can use the buttons at the top to share via a social media outlet like Facebook or Twitter).
2. Come back to the blog and post a comment letting me know who you shared it with (you can just give me a first name), and any feedback you have for my column. This could be a critique, a place you think I should review, or just plain advice you think would benefit my column!
3. We’re using the honor system here, kids, so don’t let me down. I’ll have no way of knowing if you really shared the article, so do me proud!
The giveaway runs from October 19th at 9am Pacific Time to October 25th at 11:59pm Pacific Time. Good luck and thanks for all the support! I’m excited to take you on this wild ride with me!
**By entering the giveaway, you agree that if you win, you will use the product and leave your honest feedback/review on the Amazon.com page for the product within 30 days of receiving it from A Half Cup. One entry per person. All valid entries will be entered into a random drawing, one winner will be chosen and given 14 days to claim their prize. An alternate will be chosen in the event the winner does not claim their prize. You may only win 1 prize in a 30 day period from A Half Cup.
UPDATE: Experimental Muffin
22 AprYAY! Good news:
My co-worker tried out the recipe last night and here’s what they looked like:
And here’s her note to me today:
“I made the muffins with a few minor mods. They turned out just as I had hoped.
“Attaching picture. I ran out of muffin cups and replaced with parchment paper; then ran out of parchment paper too and resorted to tinfoil which is why you see the variety of materials in the picture. I adjusted the recipe we exchanged but added 1 egg (2 total) and added blueberries instead of dried fruit (which is not allowed on the diet).
“If I were to make it again, I might cut back on the blueberries since it was a bit moist. I’ll bring one in tomorrow so you can try it.
”We have invented a new recipe! ”
And I did try one, and it was delicious!
